The Race for Planet "X" visits Girls of Promise Conference

Our very popular mobile museum, The Race for Planet "X" recently visited the Girls of Promise Conference held at the University of Arkansas - Little Rock on February 9, 2008. Three groups of about 30 girls spent time inside the museum on wheels getting hands-on experience with laser beams, decoding, a CAD program, a video microscope and more.

The Race for Planet "X" spends its weekdays visiting sixth grade classes in schools across the state, concentrating on rural areas where students don't often get the chance to visit a museum.

Network Exhibits Increase Attendance Across Arkansas

Grossology, The Mystery of the Mayan Medallion and Good Vibrations are drawing the crowds across the state at our partner museums.

At the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources in Smackover, 15,000 children and adults came to see Grossology - up from 3,000 visitors last year at that time. The El Dorado School District changed their curriculum map so the could visit Grossology at the same time they were studying the human body.

Discovery Place Children's Museum in Texarkana's attandance doubled in 2007 over the 2006 attendance count, thanks in large part to the exhibits and events brought there by the Network.

"Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body," is at the Discovery Place Children's Museum in Texarkana and will be open until May 11, 2008.
Sponsored by Arkansas Children's Hospital

Grossology is sponsored statewide by Arkansas Children's Hospital.

If you missed The Mystery of the Mayan Medallion while it was in Pine Bluff, you can visit it now in Fayetteville. Presented by the Center for Math and Science Education, the exhibit will be at the Walton Arts Center until March 8.

Good Vibrations: Light, Sound and Motion is a collection of innovative, inquiry-based exhibits developed and built especially for the Arkansas Discovery Network by the world-renowned Exploratorium in San Francisco. Now until April 6, the exhibit will be at the
Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources.

NanoDays Across Arkansas

NanoDaysThe partners of Arkansas Discovery Network have joined NSF in bringing NanoDays to Arkansas. Network museums will be partnering with universities and researchers in their regions to hold their own NanoDays events between March 29 and April 6.

Particles at the nanoscale are smaller than bacteria such as E. coli, but larger than atoms. You may not be aware of how nanotechnology has changed your lives now and will in the future. Find out more during Nano Days at your local museum partner.
