2010 Exploratorium Summer Teacher Institute
The Exploratorium Summer Teacher Institute in San Francisco, California, is a 4-week professional development experience that will invigorate your teaching with techniques to inspire your students to become excited about learning. The institute will be held June 21 through July 16, 2010. (Application deadline is March 17, 2010!)
For 25 years, the Teacher Institute has been training teachers from all over the country in inquiry learning techniques. The workshops are a rich mix of hands-on activities based on Exploratorium exhibits, content-based instruction, web-based teaching resources and machine shop experiences.
The Institute professors show innovative ways to introduce true inquiry learning into your classroom with cheap, everyday materials. Teachers who have attended the Institute in the past have called it a “life-changing experience.”

We want Arkansas’ teachers to have this incredible opportunity and to share these inquiry teaching methods with other teachers. A generous grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation has enabled the Arkansas Discovery Network to send 6 teachers to the Institute in 2010.
Participants will study at the Exploratorium for five and one-half hours each day, Monday through Friday, for four weeks. Each participant will be awarded a stipend of $1100 after completion. The University of Arkansas Center for Mathematics and Science Education will award 110 Professional development hours to participants. Attendees of the Institute must agree to share new skills and inform
ation with their schools, school district, coop and/or at the Arkansas Conference on Teaching.

The Institute is open to middle and high school math and science teachers who have been teaching for at least 3 years and are certified to teach in Arkansas. Those who have attended a previous Institute are not eligible to re-apply.
