Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How can I get Planet ‘X’ to my school?
The primary mission of the exhibit truck, The Race for Planet ‘X’, is to serve rural areas of the state. However, we make every effort to visit all schools that have requested to have the truck visit their school. The academic year tour is pre-planned to maximize the number of students who will experience the exhibits, while minimizing travel time. If you request the truck to come to your school, we will make every effort to fit your school into the pre-planned route. You may contact us at planetx@amod.org for more information.

  2. How will I know if my school is on the pre-planned route?
The Race for Planet 'X' will visit specific regions for two weeks, visiting rural schools within a 30-mile radius. Our Planet ‘X’ mission specialists will be contacting schools in that area at least two weeks prior to our visit. If you have requested a visit or if your school is already in our pre-planned route, you will be contacted to determine an appropriate day and time for the visit.

  3. What costs are involved?
Currently, the Race for Planet ‘X’ is free to schools.

  4. What age/grade is most appropriate for The Race to Planet 'X'?
The exhibits on The Race to Planet 'X' have been designed to correlate to the 6th grade Arkansas Science Education Framework. A post-visit classroom experience is available and has been written for the 6th-grade level. Therefore, we ask that schools limit the experience for 6th grade only. For community events and festivals, we do encourage children from 0 to 99 to enjoy the experience.

  5. Does the exhibit come to the classroom or is it literally “on wheels”?
The Race for Planet 'X' is a fully immersive exhibit that will literally pull up to your parking lot. The exhibits are all on-board the truck.

  6. How long is The Race for Planet 'X' experience?
The Race for Planet 'X' will take students approximately 1 hour to complete the on-board exhibits. Pre-trip and post-trip lessons are also available.

  7. How many students at one time engage in the experience?
Optimally, 20 students can engage in the experience at one time, working in groups of two.

  8. How long can the truck stay at my school?
In most situations, the truck can be ready for visitors by 10:00 a.m. and stay until the end of the school day. The mission specialists will need to make special arrangements if you would like the truck for more than one day. Interior Race for Planet X

  9. What is the maximum number of students that can visit the truck in one day?
  10. With the optimum number of 20 students per class or experience, we can accommodate 5 classes per day. That provides the opportunity for 100 students per day.

  11. Can the truck help with teacher professional development at my school?
Yes! The Race for the Planet ‘X’ is perfect for teacher professional development during the summer months.
